The recent Climate Change Summit (COP28) in Dubai reveals
\nMexico’s commitment to the fight against climate change. Although it is one of the most
\npopulated countries in Latin America, the modest presence of 137 participants reflects an
\nobvious challenge.<\/p>\n

Agreements Signed by Mexico at COP28:<\/h3>\n
    \n
  1. Commitment to Triple Renewable Energy<\/strong>: Mexico joins more than 110
    \ncountries to triple renewable energy capacity by 2030, promoting
    \nclean generation and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.<\/li>\n
  2. Sonora Project:<\/strong> An ambitious photovoltaic park with capacity for 1,000
    \nmegawatts, marking an advance in renewable energy. However, the need for a comprehensive
    \nplan to completely abandon oil and gas is highlighted.<\/li>\n
  3. Emissions Reduction by 2030:<\/strong> Commitments updated in 2022 seek to
    \nreduce emissions by 35% by 2030 without international financing and 40% with
    \nfinancial support.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Pending Challenges: for Mexico<\/h3>\n
      \n
    1. Lack of Political Will:<\/strong> The lack of government interest in promoting
      \na real energy transition is noted, stopping the expansion of renewable energies and
      \nstrengthening the fossil fuel industry, especially through Pemex.<\/li>\n
    2. Fossil Fuel Dependency:<\/strong> Mexico faces the challenge of reducing
      \nits dependence on the 70% of climate change-related emissions generated
      \nby fossil fuels.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      COP28 Conclusion and Future Perspectives:<\/h3>\n

      The proposed agreement highlights the progressive reduction in the use of fossil fuels,
      \ngenerating controversy between oil producing countries and supporters of a faster
      \ntransition towards clean technologies. The urgency of climate change is evident, but the
      \ndraft final declaration faces criticism as insufficient.<\/p>\n

      Mexico, despite its commitments, finds itself at a climate crossroads. Civil society
      \nand parliamentarians urge a just transition, while international
      \npressure grows to adopt more ambitious measures consistent with the objectives of
